‘That’s smaller than my nan’s garden shed!’ Council closes down ‘tiniest NCP car park in the UK’ with just four spaces charging 95p an hour that left drivers

Council officers have closed down a small private car park set up on a Southampton drive which left motorists baffled by its minute size.

Leaving your car in the four-space car park would set you by 95p of an hour and £5.95 for upwards of three hours.

The gravel car park sat next to a mock Tudor house at the end of Water Lane, leading onto a dual carriage way.

It was also near various attractions in the city, including Southampton City Art Gallery, SeaCity Museum, according to NCP.

The car park, divided by a small fence, was branded an ‘eyesore’, with others taking to Reddit to bash the small parking area.

A spokesperson from Southampton City Council has since commented: ‘The Landowner was written to advising the use was unauthorised and a breach of planning control.

‘The Landowner responded confirming the use had ceased and advertisements removed. An enforcement notice has not been served and the case currently remains open for monitoring.’

An NCP spokesperson has since said: ‘NCP is always looking for suitable spaces, whatever the size, to deliver much needed car parking spaces for our customers.

‘We look for sites that we think would benefit our customers and the local economy, with good proximity to local shops or train stations for example.

‘And as such, we have car parks ranging from a few spaces to hundreds of spaces.

‘We do not comment on the legal matters regarding our dealings with councils. We can confirm that we no longer operate from this site’

After a photo of the car park was shared online, one motorist quipped: ‘Only 4 spots? Bloody hell,
